Japan’s first yokai museum opens in Miyoshi, Hiroshima

In addition to the ‘Ino Mononoke Roku’ Yokai Story, a yokai folktale set in Miyoshi, the exhibit features yokai-related materials carefully selected from approximately 5,000 items, including picture scrolls, colored woodblock prints, pottery and toys. These items were donated by Mr. Yumoto Koichi, a folklorist and yokai researcher, and are highly regarded as one of Japan’s largest collections of yokai-related artifacts.

Night Parade of One Hundred Yokai Digital Picture Scroll

Japan Yokai Museum is featuring,
tensive Yokai Collection: It showcases over 5,000 items, including picture scrolls, woodblock prints, pottery an toys, donated by folklorist Koichi Yumoto.

Digital Collection Wall: An interactive gallery where visitors can explore and learn about Yokai by touching images on large screens to reveal details and stories.

Ino Mononoke Roku: A rare Edo-period picture scroll depicting the mysterious 30-day experiences of Heitaro Ino, a young samurai in 1749.

teamLab★Yokai Park: An interactive experience where guests can draw Yokai that come to life and walk around, enhancing engagement with these creatures.

Permanent and Special Exhibits: The museum offers rotating exhibitions like The Yokai of Japan and Ino Mononoke Roku, showing how Yokai have evolved from human fears of nature into cultural icons, integrated into everyday life through various objects, art, and stories.
