After hearing his father reminisce about Mirasaka Shopping Street and the old local movie theater near JR Mirasaka Station, Sasaki knew he had found just the place to be a part of the local Miyoshi community. After a stint attending coffee school in Tokyo, learning about coffee roasting and brewing methods and visiting famous coffee shops to see what made each cup special, Sasaki returned to Miyoshi to open Mirasaka Coffee.

Tokyo barista training isn’t the only thing Sasaki has brought to the Miyoshi coffee scene. Sasaki will proudly tell you that Mirasaka Coffee is the only coffee shop in Japan’s whole Chugoku region to use this cutting edge La Cimbali model! But like any cafe, the seats fill up again in the afternoon as people come in for a little caffeine and something sweet to eat, sometimes arriving from out of town just to visit the coffee shop. Sasaki recommends pairing the lighter flavor of the Mirasaka blend with the cafe’s parfaits, ice cream, and baked goods brought in from local producers like Mugi. For those who prefer a sweet drink, one top seller is Mirasaka Coffee’s honey latte (580 yen), which uses honey from Miyoshi’s own Masuda Apiary.
