Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi : Charcoal Baths and Cozy Cabins in a Business Hotel
Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi has been a popular choice for business travelers visiting Miyoshi since its establishment in the 1980s, and changes and renovations in recent years have transformed the hotel to accommodate a variety of travelers with a variety of rooms. Now, just a 15-minute walk from Miyoshi Station and a two-minute drive from the local highway, it’s a convenient option for those traveling to Miyoshi for both business and pleasure, from athletes staying over before local Hiroshima sports events to sightseers aiming for the Miyoshi Mononoke Museum.

When it comes to room types, Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi has just about any configuration you could hope for, including singles, semi-doubles, twins, suites, and Japanese-style rooms with tatami mat floors. But the hotel is especially excited about showing off its floor of recently renovated rooms, which is mainly taken up by “Private Cabins.” These cabins are like the luxury form of the “capsules” found at capsule hotels, but while a capsule is usually just broad enough to accommodate a mattress and tall enough for a seated person, Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi’s cabins are more like compact little rooms complete with small desks. Ideal for the solo traveler!

The biggest difference between a cabin and a normal room at Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi is that the cabins close with an accordion curtain instead of a door, and for that reason they’re only available to male guests. For those who want to check out the hotel’s newly renovated floor, but would prefer a lock on the door, the “Deluxe Room” (shown at the top of the page) offers a little extra security and sound-proofing.

There’s plenty of extra space for those staying in the cabins in the “Relaxation Room” just down the hall. Guests are free to use the room like a shared living room, and it’s set up with comfy seats, massage chairs, and space to stretch out a little. There’s also coffee available, and an extensive collection of Japanese manga on the shelves (more than 5,000 volumes) for anyone who would rather stay up all night reading their favorite series!

The hotel offers some rooms that are great for the traveler on a budget, but when morning comes, breakfast is far from the skimpy continental spread you might expect. The buffet opens at 6:30 each morning, perfect for guests who want to get an early start, and includes 30 platters of food made with local Miyoshi ingredients. Fresh vegetables come from Miyoshi’s own farms, while the dishes of tofu and cauldron of steaming hot rice come from nearby Mirasaka. Sit at a table, or try settling down on a cushion in one of the little Japanese-style tatami mat areas to enjoy the meal.

One last treat for guests staying at Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi is the large communal bath on the first floor, which uses water infused with Japanese binchotan charcoal for a little bit of extra luxury. Unfortunately, there’s only one of these special baths, and it’s only available to male guests, so the hotel works to make the bathtime experience special in other ways for those without access to the binchotan tub. Next to reception is a shelf with a huge variety of amenities that can be borrowed while staying at the hotel, including three different options for shampoo and conditioner, bath salts, and plenty of things to improve the after-bath experience: yukata (light kimono used as robes), slippers, humidifiers, even portable neck massagers. To polish off the experience, there are three different kinds of pillows available too, like memory foam and “princess pillows.” After a relaxing automated neck massage, or a back massage from the massage chairs in the Relaxation Room, the perfect pillow will have anyone drifting off at Hotel Crown Hills Miyoshi in no time!

How often do you get to choose your own shampoo and conditioner at a hotel? Don’t forget to grab some bath salts for extra relaxation!
